Tunisia saw its tourism revenues in dinars to increase by 2.1% in the first quarter 2014 compared to the same period of 2013, marked by a deep political crisis.

In the first quarter, Tunisia hosted 988,767 tourists, up 7.1%, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism. However, this is still far from the 10% in 2010, the baseline year for the sector. Earnings dinars were up 2.5% compared to 2010 as these figures do not take into account the depreciation of the currency since the Tunisian revolution of January 2011.

7% of GDP before the revolution
Tourism is a key sector of the Tunisian economy, it generated 7% of GDP before the revolution (as the destination France) and accounted for some 400,000 jobs. In 2011, the industry experienced a 33% drop. Marked by political repression and several waves of violence, 2013 should be a year of renewal for the Tunisian tourism.
